A great weekend for a great cause
June 14, 2011
This weekend we drove over 2000 miles, from Thursday through Sunday we slept a total of 5 hours in an actual bed. We didn't do it for points, we didn't do it for any of our usual reasons, to race and hang out with good people (though that was an added bonus), we did it for a cause.
Last year a young man named Brice in Superior Wisconsin had a great Idea, Lets have a fund raiser mower race for our relay for life team. They raised over $1800 last year, with about a dozen mowers there to put on a show. This year I think there was well over 40 mowers from 4 or 5 states and I believe Brice raised a bit more.
I am proud to say I was part of the event. Cancer is a disease that has touched the lives of everyone in the world and every year the American Cancer Society makes gains against this killer. This event is just one of many that take place around the globe every year in a truly world wide effort to fight against cancer.
Many have you have attended these events, for those who have not it is one of the best things to be a part of. There is alot of laughing and a little bit of crying. Mostly those, there are people who care enough to give up maybe just an afternoon to attend, and a few bucks admission. Some others like ourselves spent a pretty penny on gas and a whole weekend to help fight Cancer. Shannon and Jessica Kayhart have given many tireless weeks to organize , promote and make the event happen. Two men I know of did one of the hardest things a man can do, they set aside their pride and personal feelings towards each other to make this event a little better and show combined support for the cause. Both are due some respect for that.
To all involved I must say thanks. Thanks for your participation, for opening your hearts and your wallets and giving to the fight.
